Re: Ray Clemence
Must be the most decorated English goalkeeper of all time (thanks to his distinguished spell at Liverpool).

Incredible to think he played 665 games for the scouse then went on to make almost another 250 for that other team.

RIP Ray, you were one of the greats for 14 years.

I remember Ludo making a similar save at Pompey December 1990.....only he pushed it round the post!

Re: Ray Clemence
Heard/read a few snippets down the years that old big nose wasn't the nicest bloke in the world, but sad news all the same.

On a footballing front, Neville and Jennings were better keepers than Shilton and Clemence. As was Seaman.

Re: Ray Clemence
Remember one save v the Jocks ... 1979?? Shot took a deflection off Dave watson... Clemence was already going the original direction when suddenly he somehow twisted his body and somehow tipped it over... one of the best saves I have ever seen...

Re: Ray Clemence
Not many better than Clemence at the art of coming off the line with an attacker bearing down on goal.

RIP

Re: Ray Clemence
For me was better than Shilts late 70's early 80's.. a superb keeper... but what a time that was for stoppers... chuck in Corrigan and Parkes and quite a foursome that ...

RIP Clem

Re: Ray Clemence
Had a real privilege to spend the afternoon in his company last year at SHL (the 1-0 Antonio game).

Was a real Gent and only too glad to talk with you rather than at you like some pro's.

Had some great stories about players past and present.

Re: Ray Clemence
Yeh, was always competing with shilton for the plum job.
Took the volleyed goal kicks like a bit of a tart but was a great keeper.

Re: Ray Clemence
He was the first keeper confident I was aware of who would play as a sweeper behind his defence. They could push further upfield confident he would intercept passes played in behind them.

Re: Ray Clemence
The best goalkeeping performance I saw at Upton Park was another Liverpool keeper, Tommy Lawrence, we were peppering their goal with everything and Lawrence or the Flying Pig as he was known somehow kept them all out, either by his hands or off his head or his fat arse, I think it ended up a draw. Shankly had him MotM

Re: Ray Clemence
Once watched him at UP putting in the best goal keeping performance I had ever seen. They were always an bunch of jammy cunts.
